THE Trent  SCHOOL                                                       

 Grade 1

Each Trent grade consists of twenty-eight sets of lessons and seven examinations.  A report card is issued following each test and upon completion of each grade.  Each set of lessons contains the equivalent of five chapters from five separate text books on five different subjects.  At Trent, you will have no additional books, CDs, or tapes to purchase.  Permanent grade records are maintained, and grade transcripts are provided.  Trent lessons adhere to the Federally Suggested Guidelines for Education.

Your child will learn. . .

Language Arts: Listening skills and beginning reading, fairy tales, nursery rhymes, myths, riddles, Aesop’s Fables, simple sentence writing, introduction to punctuation signs.
 
 Math: patterns and classifications, understanding numbers to 100, , ordinal numbers, Place Value, Using Graphs, Fractions, adding and subtracting simple problems.
 
General science: Living Things and Their Habitats- desert, ocean, The Food Chain, Dinosaurs, introduction to the body, matter, Units of Measurement, the environment, plants, animal, the solar system, measuring and the seasons.
 
Social Science: An introduction to the Ice Age, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Hammurabi, Crossing the Land Bridge, early American history, and world religions.
 
Fine Arts: Visual art history, Color, Drawing, Shapes, Texture, Portraits, Murals, orchestra instruments, The Orchestra, Great Composers, dance and music.
